Meet the collectors | Patrick Sun

Our ‘Meet the collectors’ film series celebrates today’s most inspiring patrons.

Patrick Sun is a man with a cause. A dedicated collector, he’s also a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights in Asia and beyond. Launched in 2014, his Sunpride Foundation has ‘a mission to foster a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for the Queer community and its allies through the collection and exhibition of art,’ he told Art Basel.

In this episode of ‘Meet the collectors’, we join Sun at Hong Kong’s Tai Kwun Contemporary for a private visit to the exhibition ‘Myth Makers – Spectrosynthesis III’. The collector has been deeply involved in making this major survey of LGBTQ+ perspectives from Asia and its diasporas, which features many pieces on loan from the Sunpride Foundation. Sun also takes Art Basel on a tour of the buzzing Sham Shui Po district, with stops at his favorite spot for noodles and two independent art spaces.

‘Myth Makers – Spectrosynthesis III’ is on view through April 10, 2023, at Tai Kwun Contemporary.
