Mara and Marcio Fainziliber: ‘We always buy as a couple.’

Step into an Ipanema Beach home brimming with contemporary and modern art

Collecting art can be something of a love affair. In our latest installment of 'Meet the collectors', Art Basel visits passionate Brazilian collectors Mara and Marcio Fainziliber. Artworks by Louise Bourgeois, Beatriz Milhazes, Seth Price, and Tracey Emin fill every nook and cranny of the couple’s home overlooking Rio de Janeiro’s world-famous Ipanema Beach. For the Fainzilibers, collecting is both emotional and rational – but above all, it’s something they do together. ‘If we go to a gallery, at the end we ask each other, “Which artwork do you like most?” And it's exactly the same artwork,’ says Marcio.
