Meet Hong Kong video art pioneer Ellen Pau

The artist on experimentation, new technologies, and the art space she co-founded, Videotage

In 1980s Hong Kong, video artists were scarce on the ground. But this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of self-taught practitioner Ellen Pau. While pursuing her own experimental practice, she co-founded Videotage, now one of Greater China’s most prominent media art organizations. A diagnostic radiographer by day, Pau has nurtured the Hong Kong video art scene from the ground up. Her first major retrospective, curated by Freya Chau, was held at Para Site earlier this year.
