What does the word ‘Paris’ mean to you?
It's where I studied, have lived, and worked for over ten years, so I consider Paris my home base. I leave her from time to time – for shorter or longer periods – but I always end up coming back.

Your first memory in Paris?
The Jardin du Luxembourg.

Where do you feel most at home?
In my studio.

What is the mark of a true Parisian?
Whatever people say, Paris is a very open-minded city. So for me, whoever has an address in Paris – whether a long-term or short-term one – is a real Parisian.

Which famous figure best embodies Paris?
There are so many different personalities that exist in Paris. I'm thinking of my friends who move here from other countries. They bring different states of mind and habits. I think Paris will become more and more cosmopolitan.

Your favorite place for breakfast?
A coffee to go, while walking to my studio.

Where are the best boutiques?
I often go to buy books at After 8 Books. I’m also quite fond of museum shops, like those at the Musée Guimet or the Musée de Cluny. I sometimes go to the Passage Brady to buy groceries, but also to a small mall just next to the Tang Frères supermarket in the 13th arrondissement. And sometimes I go to the hammam at the Paris Mosque.

Guests at your dream dinner party in Paris?
My close friends and favorite artists.

Where do you go out in Paris?
To a wide variety of places. I like to follow friends who are visiting or on residencies, to discover new spots.

Which artwork best represents Paris?
I’m thinking of my friend Jacob Eisenmann, who shot a sitcom here during the last lockdown. Through his story and the locations he chose, I experienced the city a bit differently.

What is the craziest thing you have heard or seen on the streets of Paris?
Whatever I’ve seen or heard, I’m sure I’ll see or hear something even crazier tomorrow.

What can you only do in Paris?
At the risk of sounding cliché: have a late dinner outdoors. Also, have a coffee at any time of day at a bar or café.

What do you miss most about Paris when you are away?
The quality of life of a village while being in a big city.

Your best advice for those just visiting?
Walk.

‘The Art Basel Edition’ by Guerlain

Alive with vivid colors and brimming with sensuality, the work of painter Julie Beaufils invokes spirituality within moments of uncertainty. Through her lines, the artist constructs parallel dimensions where the conscious and unconscious collide.

A leading patron of contemporary art, Guerlain has collaborated with countless artists since the founding of the Maison in 1828, tirelessly championing creativity and artistic exploration.

To celebrate its partnership with Art Basel, Guerlain reveals a stunning new collaboration with Julie Beaufils around a limited edition fragrance, with an amber, floral, and woody trail: a considered encounter between masculine and feminine.

‘The Art Basel Edition’ by Guerlain with Julie Beaufils will be available exclusively at The Art Basel Shop during Art Basel Paris from October 18-20, 2024.
