What alternative models and spaces are a new wave of cultural practitioners developing in Hong Kong and how? This roundtable invites a trailblazing group of young artists, curators, and directors to talk about the work they are doing to create sites of gathering and alternative structures of support for art and culture in the city. Joseph Chen, Director of Culture, Eaton HK Michelle Wong, Billy Kwok, South Ho, co-founders, New Park Moderated by Eunice Tsang, founder of Current Plans Joseph Chen King Yuen is a curator and artist based in Hong Kong. He is currently the Director of Culture at Eaton HK, a purpose-driven hospitality brand where he builds communities for artists, changemakers, and marginalized groups and curates social and creative initiatives to support local cultures and foster international exchanges. His curatorial and art practices deal with gender and sexuality, subculture, mythology, and technology, revolving around visual art, the moving image, and performance. He is the co-founder of Virtue Village, an art initiative creating and curating art that connects humans to spirituality and intimacy. New Park is a space for/of looking and conversations, run by artists South Ho Siu Nam, Billy HC Kwok and researcher Michelle W T Wong. We organise the solo exhibition series One Hit Wonder and screenings of moving image works. Eunice Tsang is a curator and artist based in Hong Kong and Italy. She is the founder and curator of Current Projects, an experimental art space promoting cross-disciplinary dialogues through alternative exhibition approaches. Her curatorial focus centers on creating spaces that facilitate the convergence of creative practices that reflect upon urgent sociopolitical issues with humor and mythmaking. She often contributes to programs at local institutions, such as establishing the Asian Artist Book Library at Tai Kwun Contemporary and working with M+ on the first edition of the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival. In 2023, she curated the Biennale Internazionale Donna in Trieste, Italy. The Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 Conversations program is curated by Stephanie Bailey.
