Daniel Otero Torres and mor charpentier awarded the 2023 CPGA – Etant donnés prize at Art Basel Miami Beach 

Colombian artist Daniel Otero Torres and gallery <a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/gallery/1226/mor-charpentier" target="_blank">mor charpentier</a> (Paris, Bogotà)&nbsp;have received the 2023 CPGA – Etant donnés prize, which rewards excellence in contemporary creation and fosters visibility for the French art scene abroad.&nbsp;The annual $15,000 prize is a joint initiative between Villa Albertine, the French institution&nbsp;anchored in ten cities across the United States&nbsp;and dedicated to the exchange of art and ideas, and France’s Comité Professionnel des Galeries d’Art (CPGA). Any gallery presenting at least one work by a French or France-based artist at Art Basel Miami Beach 2023 was eligible to apply.&nbsp;

The selection process involved a jury comprising major French and American collectors and institutional directors: Carolina Alvarez-Mathies, the&nbsp;Executive Director of Dallas Contemporary; Daisy Desrosiers, the&nbsp;Director and Chief Curator of THE GUND at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio; collector François Sarkozy; and the art historians, philanthropists, and collectors Catherine Petitgas and Estrellita B. Brodsky.&nbsp;
Impressed by the artist’s adept utilization of various mediums and techniques to convey meaningful messages, the jury&nbsp;bestowed the award on Otero Torres’s work, for his ability to ‘delve into the complexities of identity, migration, and the impact of globalization on diverse communities, fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate web of social and environmental issues.’&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born in Bogotá in 1985, Daniel Otero Torres currently lives and works in Paris. His multidisciplinary work encompasses sculpture, installation, ceramics, pictorial practice, and drawing – the starting point and connective thread for his entire oeuvre.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Established in Paris in 2010, <a href="https://www.artbasel.com/catalog/gallery/1226/mor-charpentier" target="_blank">mor charpentier</a> represents both emerging and established artists whose conceptual practices are anchored in the social realities, history, and politics of contrasting geographic regions, with special attention to the Global South.&nbsp;&nbsp;
