Public Program

Our Public Program, free and open to all, is dedicated to art projects in the heart of Paris. This year, ten locations will host presentations.

Miu Miu, the Public Program Official Partner, will present ‘Tales & Tellers’ at the Palais d’Iéna, a special project conceived by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga and convened by Elvira Dyangani Ose, the director of Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

Carsten Höller’s Giant Triple Mushroom (2024) will take over the Place Vendôme, while Avenue Winston Churchill, which will be pedestrianized for the duration of the fair, will host works by John Chamberlain, Yayoi Kusama, Jean Prouvé. At the Petit Palais, Jesse Darling will present VANITAS (2023), a reinterpretation of his Turner Prize-winning installation, and the Cour de l’Hôtel de la Marine will host a work by Takis. The Domaine national du Palais-Royal will be home to the work of seven artists including Thomas Schütte, Heinz Mack, and Ghada Amer.

The Beaux-Arts de Paris – Chapelle des Petits-Augustins will provide the backdrop for Jean-Charles de Quillacq’s sculptures; the Parvis de l’Institut de France will host Niki de Saint Phalle’s L’Arbre-Serpents (1988); the Musée national Eugène-Delacroix returns this year with a project by Ali Cherri; and the Hôtel de Sully will host the exhibition ‘Hypercycle’ by Lynn Chadwick.

Conversations

Art Basel Conversations will take place in the Petit Palais, located in front of the Grand Palais, and will be curated for the third year by Paris-based curators Pierre Alexandre Matéos and Charles Teyssou. The flagship talk series will feature 11 panel discussions in English and French as well as performances by Aho Ssan and Christian Falsnaes.

Highlights include the Premiere Artist Talk with Turkish-born French artist Nil Yalter and conversations about the seemingly diminishing gap between certain large commercial galleries and public institutions; Paris as a beacon of the homosexual artistic avant-garde; and how Arthur Rimbaud’s A Season in Hell (1873) marked a turning point in the aesthetics of Modernism.

The Conversations program is free and open to all upon reservation and will take place from Thursday, October 17 to Saturday, October 19 at the Petit Palais.

Events

Art Basel Paris hosts a rich events program for even more art and inspiration. Check out our calendar, which brings together all the exhibitions, special openings, guided tours, previews, conferences, festivals, and more on offer during the fair.

There are many exhibitions and artistic events taking place across the city during the week of Art Basel Paris. At the Centre Pompidou, do not miss the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2024, for which artists Gaëlle Choisne, Abdelkader Benchamma, Noémie Goudal, Angela Detanico, and Rafael Lain have been nominated. At Lafayette Anticipations, Mohamad Abdouni and Martine Syms will each present solo shows. Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection will host an exhibition on Arte Povera and the Fondation Cartier will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an exhibition of work by Colombian artist Olga de Amaral.

An evening with The Residents

On October 18, Loris Gréaud will take over the Théâtre du Châtelet with a new project, ‘Cortical Palace’. The Residents, a mysterious group of the musical avant-garde, who have preserved the anonymity of their members for over 50 years, will perform live and reveal their previously unreleased track Cortical Palace, specifically written and composed for the occasion. Wearing never-before-seen costumes and masks, The Residents will deliver a one-song concert in the spectacular Théâtre du Châtelet, which for one night will become the temple of an alien incantation.

1,200 free seats will be offered to the public. Book your seat here.

Oh La La!

Oh La La! is a new initiative inviting exhibitors to creatively rehang their booths with rarely exhibited and unusual artworks. Unfolding across 37 booths on Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19 at the Grand Palais, Oh La La! will create a playful itinerary and offer visitors an opportunity to (re)discover the stands from a new perspective, underscoring the continuously shifting make-up of the show. The works and projects of this inaugural edition of Oh La La! will explore themes such as love, eroticism, history, the legacy of Surrealism, and Queer identity.

The Art Basel Shop

The Art Basel Shop lands in Paris for the first time. The concept store will showcase a selection of bespoke lifestyle products that celebrate and extend the Art Basel experience. Curated for the second time by Sarah Andelman, the shop will present exclusive collectibles across art, design, fashion, and publishing, and will feature works designed by Claire Fontaine, a collective, feminist, conceptual artist, established in Paris in 2004 by the Italian-British duo Fulvia Carnevale and James Thornhill.

The shop will be located on the ground floor of the Grand Palais.
