Art Basel in Basel 2025, running June 19–22, will transform Basel, Switzerland into a global art hub, featuring artworks from 291 galleries across 42 countries. Under the leadership of director Maike Cruse, the show will offer visitors everything from museum-quality works by legendary artists such as Pablo Picasso and Louise Bourgeois to immersive installations by the rising stars reshaping the art world. The fair’s entrance plaza, Messeplatz, will be turned into an eye-catching chromatic extravaganza, as celebrated German artist Katharina Grosse brings her signature spray-gun technique to the space.

New this year is Premiere, a fresh exhibition sector showcasing bold artwork created in the past 5 years. Ten cutting-edge galleries will present highly innovative works. Jacky Strenz (Frankfurt) has chosen to honor German-Iraqi sculptor Lin May Saeed, who passed away in 2023, showing her poignant sculptures and wall reliefs that address animal liberation, interspecies relationships, and the beauty of the natural world. Premiere will also include trailblazing galleries such as LC Queisser (Tbilisi) and Selma Feriani Gallery (Tunis and London). Discover all Premiere exhibitors here.

Eighteen galleries will participate in the fair for the first time. Arcadia Missa (London) and François Ghebaly (Los Angeles and New York) – both known for their visionary programs and ability to foster young artists’ careers – will be joining the show’s prestigious main sector, which will welcome a total of 239 participants. See them all here.

Statements, dedicated to tomorrow's art stars, will introduce exciting new talent. Among them is Sana Shahmuradova Tanska, a Ukrainian painter from Odesa who creates evocative scenes inspired by mythology and symbolism, presented by Gunia Nowik Gallery (Warsaw). Zimbabwean creator Felix Shumba’s exploration of political violence in East Africa, presented by Jahmek Contemporary Art (Luanda), and Turkish-Canadian artist Elif Saydam’s unexpected meditation on toilet doors, presented by Franz Kaka (Toronto), are likely to make a splash as well. Discover all 18 participating artists and galleries here.

Feature, the sector for art-historical projects, will include 16 curated presentations and welcome six first-time exhibitors. Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles) will celebrate the work of American legend Tina Girouard, who made a name for herself in the 1960s and 1970s with provocative performances and a community-based approach to artmaking. Also on view will be Swiss painter Annette Barcelo’s oneiric bathtub canvases, courtesy of Madragoa (Lisbon), and ‘Mother Earth’, a solo presentation by feminist icon Judy Chicago, presented by Jessica Silverman (San Francisco). The popular Unlimited and Parcours sectors, curated by Giovanni Carmine and Stefanie Hessler respectively, will also return this year. Further details will be available soon.

Beyond the show, cultural institutions in and around Basel will present a host of star-studded exhibitions, including major solo shows by Ser Serpas (Kunsthalle Basel), Vija Celmins (Fondation Beyeler), Steve McQueen (Schaulager), and Suzanne Lacy (Museum Tinguely).
