Three Argentine photographers share their surprising takes on Buenos Aires

Alejandro Chaskielberg, Gaston Perello, and Jorge Minio convey the spirit of the city with shots that capture its contradictions

Buenos Aires is a city of contrasts: the antique and the contemporary, the bustling and the bucolic, the sacred and the profane, the remarkable and the mundane. From the lush parks of Palermo to the lively grit of La Boca, in these poetic juxtapositions Alejandro Chaskielberg, Gaston Perello, and Jorge Minio show that one doesn’t have to look far to find views that please the eye and feed the mind.

Alejandro Chaskielberg

‘Buenos Aires inspires me with its large parks and beautiful trees, pleasant climate, and its characteristic wind. Above all I adore the majestic Río de la Plata.’

Alejandro Chaskielberg

With a degree from the National Institute of Cinematography of Argentina, Alejandro Chaskielberg (b. 1977, Buenos Aires) has shot extensively at home and abroad. He has exhibited in numerous photographic festivals and international biennials, including the Brighton Biennial curated by Martin Parr in 2010, and was named World Photographer of the Year in 2011. Since 2015, Chaskielberg has lived in the Paraná River delta, where he produced his first monograph, La Creciente. His second, Otsuchi Future Memories, documents the aftermath of the 2011 tsunami in a small Japanese fishing town. He recently published his third book, Laberinto, about a hedge maze in the mountains of Patagonia.
