Joan Jonas, Tate Modern,&nbsp;London,&nbsp;March 14–August 5, 2018'Following Joan Jonas’ wonderful exhibition in the United States Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2015, recent shows in New York and Iceland demonstrated that after more than 40 years she is only getting stronger. I can’t wait for this survey of one of the great American video and performance artists of our time, and if you missed it in Munich it’s traveling to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-modern" target="_blank">Tate Modern</a> this spring.'Banu Cennetoğlu, Chisenhale Gallery, London, June 29–August 26, 2018, and Liverpool Biennial,&nbsp;July 14–October 28, 2018'One of the most important artists working at the moment, Banu Cennetoğlu’s new exhibition continues a super strong strand of programming at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.chisenhale.org.uk/" target="_blank">Chisenhale Gallery</a> in London. Co-commissioned with the<a href="http://www.biennial.com/" target="_blank"> Liverpool Biennial</a>, her new work draws on The List: a register of annual migrant deaths, complied by UNITED for Intercultural Action since 1993. Cennetoğlu was one of the highlights of documenta 14 for me, both in Athens and Kassel. Vital, challenging, and more timely than ever.'

Tripoli International Fair, Tripoli,&nbsp;September–October 2018&nbsp;'The emblematic and mythical architecture designed by Oscar Niemeyer between 1968 and 1974 and conceived for an international commercial fair in Tripoli will host a contemporary art group exhibition in fall 2018. It was about to open when the Lebanese Civil Wars broke out in 1975. The unfinished building has never been used since, but continues to inspire artists and curators today. The show evolves around the notion of cycles that result in the constant destruction and reconstruction of civilizations.'

	30th anniversary of the&nbsp;<a href="http://daratalfunun.org/" target="_blank">Darat al Funun</a>&nbsp;arts and cultural center, Amman

'This artistic 'oasis' was founded in 1988 by artist and curator Suha Shoman. Entitled 'Truth Is Black, Write Over It with a Mirage’s Light'&mdash;quoting a poem by Mahmoud Darwich&mdash;the year-round celebration event gathers together 30 artists' projects focusing on the turmoil of present times, wars, and environmental and socio-cultural upheavals through art.'

Mexican general elections, July 1, 2018'There is a desperate urgency to see our political regime in Mexico change dramatically; this is due at the end of 2018&mdash;an election year. I look forward to witnessing and being part of that transformation. It will be an intense atmosphere, but I am hoping it will be worth it. We need it more than ever!'The influence of tribes, of different types'In 2018 the Museo Tamayo will present a show about the relationship of Antonin Artaud with the Tarahumara peoples in Mexico, and another one about the esoteric but influential Delphic Society, which developed early in the 20th century in New York, but was highly influential for a number of Mexican artists and thinkers. The 1968 student movement in Mexico, as well as other political collisions that took place the same year in different latitudes, and the dynamics that ensued in the arts arena, are to be revisited by the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, including the Sublevaciones (Uprisings) exhibition conceived by French philosopher Georges Didi-Huberman.'Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam, and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis'Further away from home, I very much look forward to seeing the program that my friend and colleague Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy will develop through her new tenure at<a href="http://www.wdw.nl/en/"> Witte de With</a>, starting in 2018. Oh well, I will say it: I am also pretty excited about my own survey exhibition at the Walker ('Illusion Brought Me Here', October 4, 2018–February 17, 2019).'

Cross-regional variations'Every year brings a new crop of biennials. But in addition to the 4th Kochi-Muziris Biennale, with Anita Dube at its helm, and the 12th Gwangju Biennale, organized by multiple curators, 2018 will also bring some notable cross-regional variations: Cuahtémoc Medina, from Mexico City’s Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, will offer his take on the Shanghai Biennale, while Hong Kong-based Inti Guerrero is curating the 38th EVA International, Ireland’s Biennial. Rather than reinforcing regional identities, these exhibitions should complicate any tidy sense of geography.'
Lee Wen archive goes online
'As part of an ongoing commitment to the history of performance&mdash;which includes a multi-part collaboration with the FICA (Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art)&mdash;<a href="https://aaa.org.hk/en">Asia Art Archive</a> will also be putting online the archives of Singaporean artist Lee Wen (b. 1967). Some of Lee’s Journey of a Yellow Man (1992–2012) performances were recently on view in Tokyo in the 'Sunshower. Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now' exhibition, but the digital records will make public lesser-known aspects of his practice as well.'

	Faith Wilding first retrospective publication'Faith Wilding (b. 1943), whose Crocheted Environment (1972, aka the 'Womb Room') is one of the iconic pieces to emerge from the second-wave feminist art movement in the United States, will finally have a monograph published. It’s an overdue consideration of the contributions of a central but under-recognized artist.'

Dak'Art 2018, The Biennale of Contemporary African Art, Dakar, May 3 – June 2, 2018'Dak’Art 2018, under the artistic direction of Simon Njami, is starting a few months after the 11th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako, the African Biennial of Photography I was extremely pleased to curate. Simon Njami wrote about the 2018 edition of Dak’Art, 'The Red Hour':&nbsp;'Africa is a great metaphor to tell the world about metamorphosis'.
