Press Release
Art Basel is delighted to announce a new digital initiative titled the Global Guide, designed to further support galleries by driving visitors and collectors to Art Basel's galleries year-round and furthering Art Basel's mission to connect engaged patrons with great artists via the galleries. Accessible through the Art Basel app, the Global Guide lists over 500 galleries from the Art Basel network by location. Art Basel audiences will be able to plan and map out their gallery visits in their hometowns and while traveling in 130 cities around the world, involving cultural capitals and artistic centers in the Americas (e.g. Bogota, Mexico City, New York); across Asia (e.g. Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo); Europe (e.g. Zurich, Berlin, London); and the rest of the globe (e.g. Beirut, Cape Town, Istanbul).
The Global Guide is available for every city that is home to an Art Basel gallery. In addition to the addresses of all exhibition spaces, the app also provides key information about each gallery’s program, including the artists and artworks the gallery brought to Art Basel shows in the past. Galleries can be ‘favorited’ and works of art that users have ‘favorited’ from the show catalogs are automatically synchronized to the Global Guide.
Starting with a beta version, available since October 2018, this app will be progressively enhanced with more functionalities. Special features will in time include personal recommendations by art world luminaries, listing their favorite museums, not-for-profit institutions, restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels. Later this summer, galleries will also be able to add gallery events to the app, directly reaching Art Basel VIP collectors from across the world.
