Art Basel at 50 – the 2000s

'I was accepted the first year in Miami Beach in 2001, but the fair was canceled because of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. The Art Basel in Miami Beach catalog had already been published and this was very useful in convincing important galleries to apply for 2002, which was a great success.'

'I participated in the first edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach. This fair really changed the Latin American art market. When I started there were maybe three Brazilian galleries and now there are about 14! Many Brazilian and Latin American collectors come every year: it’s the most important Latin American fair, far beyond the ones organized in Latin America. It was in Miami Beach in 2002 that I saw the first Brazilian collectors coming to an international art fair.'
