Conversations: Is matronage the new patronage?

2:30pm-3:30pm

The history of Modern and contemporary art has been profoundly influenced by female collectors. From Gertrude Stein to Peggy Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art founders Lillie P. Bliss, Mary Quinn Sullivan, and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, these visionaries have left an indelible mark on the art world. This panel explores the ongoing work of women who continue this illustrious legacy. With unwavering dedication, they shape artistic narratives by creating spaces for underrepresented artists and enhancing their visibility in both the market and institutional holdings. As a new generation of female collectors emerges, this conversation delves into how women can harness their collective power to maximize their impact on the artistic canon.

Conversations take place in the Auditorium (Grand Ballroom), Level 2, North.

Conversations | Art and the great wealth transfer

4pm-5pm

The Great Wealth Transfer is already underway, and over the next 20 years, USD 84 trillion is poised to move from older Americans to their Gen X and millennial heirs. Alongside financial assets and real estate, artworks and collections will also be passed down for an estimated 20% of high-net-worth individuals. How will the habits, ethical and social concerns, and trends defining art collecting and philanthropy shift as established collections are acquired by a very different next generation?

Conversations take place in the Auditorium (Grand Ballroom), Level 2, North.

Artists Walkthrough | New World School of the Arts

7:30pm-8:30pm

Join us for an artist walkthrough of the exhibition 'World Without End'. Aramis O’Reilly’s work represents his desire to imagine a utopian world. Since he was an immigrant from early childhood, he experienced two worlds that existed simultaneously. The “Old World” that was left behind existed in the imagination of his parents versus the “New World” that did not quite fit because of the separation of language, culture, and appearance. Due to these dichotomies, there was an inevitable detachment from both. This separation allowed O’Reilly to experience a critical distance from both realities thus providing a mental space for him to reimagine both worlds.

Exhibition on view during the fair:

Conversations: A sharing economy: New models in Museums acquisitions

2:30pm-3:30pm

Faced with tightening acquisition parameters, museums are finding new ways to add depth to their permanent collections. Joint acquisition is one such solution. In recent years, an increasing number of museums have joined forces with a second institution to co-own artworks, and collectors have donated collections to multiple museums. What are the potential benefits – and challenges – of such co-ownership? This conversation looks at the intricacies and possibilities of a shared economy for museum collections.

Conversations take place in the Auditorium (Grand Ballroom), Level 2, North.
