<p><span style="font-size: 16px;"><em>Untitled, 2021</em><br />2021<br />0.7 x 4 x 4 m<br />Carrara and Lasa marble, wood</span></p><p>Weaving together archival fragments and personal references, Berlin-based Danh Võ often evokes experiences of migration and integration. Anthropological in nature, the artist’s practice exists at the intersection of autobiography and collective history, exploring the ability for objects to hold and retain meaning, and the malleability of this through interpretation, reclamation and context. This ambiguity is often represented through ready-mades. He also actively collects and re-interprets historical ephemera, which, when removed from their sites of origin, are changed and evolved to hold new meanings. The space is all-encompassing; everything one sees is the work, from the horizontal marble floor-scape to the three sculptural objects assembled upon it, to the breathing space between that keeps all of these elements in chorus. The use of enigmatic neo-classical motifs suggests a movement of objects across time and space, questioning how the past informs the present, and how the present informs the future, and each of us within these passages. </p><p><strong></strong></p><p>Danh Võ’s conceptual works and installations often build on personal experiences to address larger historical, social, and political concerns.
