Gajah-Gallery

Since 1996, Gajah Gallery has remained at the forefront of the Southeast Asian art scene, representing a portfolio of the region’s leading artists as well as engaging its promising emerging artists. The Gallery has locations in Singapore, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta, and continues to support the work of relevant artists through a full calendar of exhibitions each year, including invitations to regional and international platforms of the highest calibre. Gajah Gallery has become a staple amongst some of the largest fairs in the region, with annual appearances at Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Fair Philippines, alongside showings at Taipei Dangdai, West Bund Art & Design, Art Jakarta and S.E.A. Focus.

Gajah Gallery remains dedicated to highlighting the historical relevance and legacies of artists in the region. Over the past two decades, the Gallery has launched landmark shows in continuity with this critical vision, such as the major group show Shaping Geographies: Art, Woman, Southeast Asia, which was curated by academics Dr Michelle Anoinette and Dr Wulan Didrgantoro in 2019; the seminal solo exhibition Semsar Siahaan: Art, Liberation, curated by eminent art historian T.K. Sabapathy in 2017; and Intersections: Latin American and Southeast Asian Contemporary Art, which travelled to Havana, Cuba in 2015. The Gallery also prides itself in its fruitful collaborative projects with national institutions, such as a joint show of Srihadi Soedarsono & Chua Ek Kay with the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) in 2005; and exhibitions on Yunizar and the Jendela Art Group with the National University of Singapore Museum (NUS) in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
