JACOB HASHIMOTO (b. 1973 Greeley, CO) creates space-altering installations and self-contained wall pieces comprised of meticulously crafted “kites”. Constructed from rice paper, bamboo, and archival line, Hashimoto utilizes seemingly infinite layers, complex geometry, and hard-edged abstraction to prompt the viewer to rethink their surrounding environment. Hashimoto received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. He has exhibited internationally at the MACRO- Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma, Italy; Nevada Art Museum, Reno; Studio la Città, Verona, Italy; Rice University Art Gallery, Houston; San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Notable upcoming exhibitions and projects include Mixografia, Los Angeles; Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, Turku, Finland; and a permanent installation at the Foundation Carmignac, Porquerolles, France.
