Erased Slogans [are] archival photographs that I [have] altered digitally. These photographs of mass mobilizations were collected from the tumultuous period before the declaration of Martial Law by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1972. The idea for singlehandedly erasing every word of protest found on the placards began as a demonstration of how the hand of the artist can be complicit in the production of historical amnesia. – Kiri Dalena, statement for one of her Erased Slogans nominated for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2013.
