Mishima's paintings produced in the 1960s had initiated a process that led to ceramic works, which she began to create after 1971 using printed matter such as newspapers, magazines and advertising flyers that Mishima then transferred onto the works with a silkscreen process. Mishima’s collage techniques and her way of using printed matters have its origin in the artist’s fear and anxiety towards an overly informational society as can be observed through her use of appropriated repeated lettering. With the artist’s fear, her keen sense of composition is beautifully expressed, particularly evident in the blank spaces of her paintings.
