Candida Höfer Li Yuan Library I, 2014 Chromogenic Print 70 x 90,8 cm Edition 1 of 6 Candida Höfer is undisputedly one of the leading international artist photographers of the present day. Her themes are mostly deserted interiors of artistic and cultural significance – places of knowledge, education and art appreciation, such as libraries and museums, prestigious interiors of palaces and churches, of edifices of secular and religious power, or places of cultural exchange, such as the foyers and auditoriums of famous theatres and opera houses. In this new work, presented at Art Basel Hong Kong, Candida Höfer photographs the modern architecture of the Li Yuan Library designed by the architect Li Xiaodong. This small library is located on the outskirts of Beijing within a setting of the surrounding nature as a location of contemplation.
