These works were created for the artist’s first solo show in Japan, held at the Ueno Royal Museum this year. United by the theme “Scenery as Metaphor”, they were created with an emphasis on personal sensory and mental aspects. The subject of what to paint becomes unimportant: these are works which return to the original act of painting itself.
