SUNRISE (2015) is an installation comprising a large light-box and two similar sculptural assemblages, one small and one larger, sitting on the ground in front of it. The light-box has a vertical color gradation that moves rather uniformly from yellow to blue. The assemblages on the floor each resemble a kind of ramshackle ikebana, combining car tires and exhausts together with flowering plants. The different elements utilize typical mass-production manufacturing techniques, and together they create a curious landscape, resembling a kind of painting—but highly artificial, seductive, and yet saccharine. The color gradation of this light-box, which moves directly from the yellow of the early morning upwards to the blue of dusk, simulates an accelerated sunrise and sunset. The format of the light-box is also the cinematic widescreen rectangle, but turned into a physical object that you can effectively walk around. The light from the installation has an active role here for modifying the mood of the environment, especially within the reflective whiteness of the gallery space, seeking to influence the sensations of space and even our emotion. It is not, of course, hollow affect. There is a message that comes along with this seduction.
